Local Ecosystems to European Impact

From local ecosystems to European impact.

On 2 April 2026, in Sanremo, Italy, Sanremo Città di Pace, a Local Learning Ecosystem within the DECITEL project, continued to grow as a space where education, community, and active citizenship meet. The network now includes 20 organisations - associations, schools, and cultural institutions - working together on human rights, intercultural dialogue, solidarity, and active citizenship.

Claudio Dondi from EIP Lab - Education Inspiring Peace Laboratory - partner in DECITEL - explained the importance of the four working groups that are now active and meeting regularly. These groups are the concrete engine turning the network’s vision into action.

The most anticipated moment of the launch was a video address by artist and Nobel Peace Prize candidate Michelangelo Pistoletto, who accepted the role of honorary president. Pistoletto introduced the idea of "preventive peace" - a direct response to the logic of preventive war that, in his view, drives most conflicts.

Through its working groups, the ecosystem explored key themes such as human rights, intercultural dialogue, and democratic participation, contributing to the broader DECITEL mission of strengthening citizenship education across Europe.

Sanremo represents a powerful example of how local ecosystems can bridge community engagement and European cooperation - transforming shared values into tangible educational practices.
